California employment laws are some of the strictest in the nation. Combined with federal laws, rules and regulations, an employer with California-based employees, faces a maze of requirements that need to be committed to a policy scheme to protect the employer and business – large or small. This course will instruct the student in the most essential policies and procedures as they relate to both California and federal law. The specific employment law will be explained along with the principles for drafting a policy and procedure handbook or scheme that address issues important to employers in California.

Patterson, an attorney licensed to practice before all state and federal courts in California, is General Counsel to the Cedrus Group, a family of international financial services firms with offices around the globe. He is a member of the Labor & Employment Section of the California State Bar and has been admitted to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California as well as the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal.
